After the product has been placed into the bag, the bag must be closed or sealed. The two factors in determining the piece of equipment best suited are - the type of closure and the speed (bags per minute).
There are many different styles of closures available. They can give the bag a totally different look depending on the type of seal that is selected. Please view our Bag Samples Page for some ideas.

Portable Sealers - Portable Hand Sealers offer lightweight packaging performance, while delivering a consistent, high-quality seal for a wide variety of packages.

Labeler Machines - Our JSL machine heat-seals a paper label on top of a cellophane bag (or other supported material). Usually the machine comes with an optional hole punch so the package can be hung - making it popular for candy and spices at point of purchase (pop) accounts.

Glue Sealers - Glue sealers produce a clean, contemporary look for paper bags. The sealer folds the top of the bag, then applies glue, and then folds the top again. This is popular with pet foods, rice, and many other industries.

Impulse Sealers - Impulse sealers are a simple and inexpensive way to seal bags. There are basically two bars that pinch the top of the bag closed, apply heat and cool. They are relatively slow (approximately 5-10 bags per minute maximum) and require a full time operator.

Pinch Sealers - Pinch sealers seal “pinch bags” which are multi-layered paper (kraft) bags that have pre applied hot melt glue on the seal area of the bag. The pinch sealer will reactivate the hot melt glue; fold the top over onto the hot melt and compress it together. This forms a very strong seal that is hard to open. Machines cost 20K-50K and run up to 60’ per minute.

Vacuum Sealers - Vacuum sealers are impulse sealers with special nozzles that draw the air out of the bag prior to sealing the top. This type of sealer can increase the shelf life of products and provide shipping protection. They can seal up to five (5) bags per minute. This machine requires a full time operator.

Hot Air Sealers -An alternative to Band Sealers, these are used to seal most heat sealable bags using hot air instead of traditional bands for products such as rock, sand, fertilizer and other gritty products that tend to damage bands. This cuts down on maintenance, however, the seals do not look as good and the sealing parameters are harder to control. Please note – hot air sealers do not seal gusseted bags.

Rotary Sealers - Rotary sealers are specially designed to seal supported film like cellophane, polypropylene, paper and foil laminates. They have a long heat section with a compression section at the end of the sealer.

Medical Sealers - Medical sealers are special because they contain controls (built into the machine) that are used to validate the equipment. Validation is required by the government to ensure safety in many products. They can be both impulse and carton sealers capable of speeds up to 30 bags per minute and require an operator to feed the machines.

Band/Medical Sealers - Medical band sealers work on the same principles as regular band sealers however they are validatable. This means if any of the preset parameters (temperature, speed, or pressure) go out of tolerance the machine signals the operator or shuts down.

Band/Heat Sealers- Band sealers seal the top of most heat sealable bags. They are fast (up to 1000”/min.) and very versatile. They use sealing bands (which must be replaced) and produce high quality seals. They usually require an operator unless a bag-handling device is employed.
